Take a look at this! I wanted to play with these guys because they're such effective, simple forms, but the most important part is: look at the watercolor look.
Paint tool SAI is a straightforward piece of work. The last time I used it, though, it had one problem: it couldn't merge layers at 11x17/300DPI resolution. Just too big for its memory capabilities. I've had the tutorials for this watercolor method in the back of my head for years, though; and finally, I cracked and went through the hoops to get SAI 2.
It's a bit of a process--you need to purchase SAI 1 (and I have no way of recovering my old license), so I did that. Then you generate a certificate for 2 on their site, and then you get an add-on .exe file that fixes some bugs with brush handling. It works, though, and look at the results! I'm super happy about this. My next project is ENA-inspired and I'll be delighted to see if I can do some faceted looks with this.
